After Kasey being employed there a year and a half, and my three months there, I felt a home where I could spend a lot of years.\u00a0 I knew it was a \u201cdifferent\u201d organization when I showed up on my first day.\u00a0 I had finally reached somewhere I could make a difference\u2026albeit in a small way.\u00a0 But a small way, many times over with my many teammates, is a huge effort.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately the cosmos has different plans for us.\u00a0 Tell you what…lets leave the “unfortunately” part out of that.\u00a0 The future is unknown.<\/p>\n
Kasey and I spent a lot of months trying to manage my care with Massachusetts General Hospital and Fletcher-Allen.\u00a0 It was frankly impossible\u2026and Fletcher-Allen just is not able to deal with such a thing.\u00a0 Not effectively.\u00a0 No fault of theirs, but we really needed to go so I could get the best care possible.\u00a0 That being the mega-excellent\u00a0Pappas Center for Neuro-Oncology.\u00a0 We needed to live in a place less than two hours from MGH.\u00a0 I go in for a chemo treatment every two weeks among other appointments.\u00a0 I take the train down and the bus back.\u00a0 That’s the treatment for now.\u00a0 And we live among family.\u00a0 Something we didn’t have in Vermont.\u00a0 So we sold the house, packed up what we could, donated the rest, and we went.\u00a0 It all happened pretty fast.<\/p>\n
We moved to a town called Cape Elizabeth, Maine\u00a0for two basic\u00a0reasons.\u00a0 One being great schools.\u00a0 They really are top notch.\u00a0 Ninety+ percentile of all schools nationally.\u00a0 The other being my care from a top-notch brain cancer center.\u00a0 The town is just south of Portland and it\u2019s a small quiet town and I can walk everywhere.\u00a0 I cant drive any longer, and my personal chauffeur needs a break.\u00a0\u00a0I can get to the post office, schools, library, etc. all within a mile.<\/p>\n
